From the San Mateo Public Library:
Learn about the unique history in your own backyard! Did you know that our area was the birthplace of a coffee empire long before baristas were on every corner? Join us to learn about the rich history of Wunderlich County Park and the Folger Stable. From Gold Rush induced logging in the Santa Cruz mountains, to large farming operations, to the “Great Estates” era of the rich and famous. Take a step back in time and learn how this local site became a national historic treasure. Presented by Kym Teppo, Executive Director Friends of Huddart & Wunderlich Park.
Kym grew up with a passion for outdoor spaces and connecting people with nature. Kym received a B.A. in Political Science and later a Juris Doctorate. She is also a certified naturalist, and interpretive guide. Kym wears many hats working for a small non-profit running educational programs in the parks and ensuring the historic preservation of the 1905 Folger Estate Historic District. The best part of her job is working with the 50 volunteers who work tirelessly to protect and promote the natural and cultural resources of our special parks.
This event will be held at the Main Library in the Oak Room.
