The DSMA is often asked about where the downtown parking meter revenues go. Frequently, people are unaware that the approximately $2 million collected annually from parking meters, pay stations, and permits pays for Downtown Maintenance in addition to operating the City’s parking facilities. Garbage collection, street sweeping, steam cleaning, garage maintenance, and all of the work that goes into keeping Downtown clean and maintained is funded with these revenues. In addition, these funds pay for one of the six parking enforcement personnel assigned to Downtown San Mateo.
The DSMA’s Beautification and Design Committees works actively to improve the overall cleanliness and appearance of Downtown San Mateo.Overall, we think that we have made real progress.
