For the reusable bag ordinance, retailers and grocery stores should have received new signage with the updated June 6th implementation date for our City. We suggest that the new signage with the June 6th date, provided by the City, is posted in your stores.

For the polystyrene ban, food businesses should have received a mailer with brochure in February, and an additional mailing in March sharing the anticipated June 6th implementation date.

The weather is getting nicer and shoppers are out and about.

How can you attract attention to your storefront?

Depending on what kind of image you want to portray, the exterior should set the tone for the interior of your store.

If you are lucky enough to have a nice display window, utilize it! An attractive display that changes frequently keeps it fresh and interesting for shoppers. A selective display that puts emphasis on a certain theme (this could be a hot item or a seasonal inspiration), should be selective and well edited. Show something special often makes for a more interesting and sophisticated visual experience than a window full of stuff. Make sure your window sparkles with good lighting and squeaky-clean windowpanes!

Exterior color:

Check with your landlord to see if you can rejuvenate your exterior with a new coat of paint. The color should reflect your style, but not upstage your merchandise on display. Highlights of black or white trim can look really sharp. One more thing, please make sure the colors you choose don’t clash with your neighbor’s colors!

Exterior displays:

To attract attention, something like a chalkboard, a small planter, hanging basket of flowers or even a little place to sit. If it is possible for you to expand the entry to your store in a tasteful, fun and unobtrusive way, more shoppers will come. A small exterior vignette that can be seen from a couple of blocks away will increase curiosity and appeal!
